Prepare for Linearity (at first)
I have completed the main story arc, and am now working on Marks. Here's my (4.5-Star) review:-As many preliminary reviewers have stated, this iteration of the Final Fantasy series is quite noticeably linear in nature in its first half. Compared to the previous FF installments, which allow you to explore a vast open world from the outset and take on various optional side-quests, FFXIII gives you neither for the first 18-20 hours of the game. Things open up after that point, but your options are still very limited compared to earlier FF games. There is also little opportunity to "level grind" (although the term doesn't explicitly apply here, more on that later) until you reach this point. You are given a proverbial "ceiling", a temporary limit to which your party members can be strengthened and developed, and for better or worse, you have to make the most of what's available to you to overcome the next challenging boss battle. The Crux system allows players to jump through various gates throughout XIII-2. Players will see a drastic change, based on their choices. This would also go towards the multiple endings of the game.
Just as the monsters appear on screen, a dial clock called "Mog Clock" appears in the middle of the bottom half of the screen and a red ring surrounds the player's character with a radius of about 3 meters.
The player will be presented with a series of "dialogue trees" when talking to non-player characters (NPCs).

Jammed packed with fun!
The best part about this game in my opinion is the overall vas exploration and hidden secrets all over. I have always been the type to work hard to find all a game has to offer and FFXIII-2 has tons. Monster collection, which I originally thought was a terrible addition to fill in the spot of a third character, is so much fun and very addicting. Almost every monster you fight, you have a chance of collecting them in a crystal, having them join your party. Each one has a specific role and their own unique feral attacks. Overall, it's a fantastic addition to the game.When you feel like taking a break from searching for Lightning, there is an amusement park style casino where you can play slots and raise chocobo's for the races to earn some nice prizes and gil. There are a few areas here that are not open yet. If you talk to an employee NPC, you will hear that these areas are under construction and will be available at a later date. I personally liked FFXIII and so far i love FFXIII-2!!! for those that werent pleased with 13 because of linearity but still liked the story and battle system, you will love this game! it's a great addition to the ff universe!! i'm pretty much at the end of the main story line but theres still alot to do., you can really get alot of hours out of this game in different ways. one of my favorite things is you get to capture monsters, it's pretty cool and can be quite a challenge to get the rare ones, since it's all random when they show up and if you can capture them.

An improvement to all of FFXIII's weak points but ending feels unsatisfying
I've been waiting for FFXIII-2 for a while and I have to say this game is an improvement to all of the weak aspects of Final Fantasy XIII. I have played this game nonstop since it came out and I was able to rush through the main storyline in 20 hours. Keep in mind that I have beaten this game (got through the final cutscene)but not with 100% completion.The first DEFINITE improvement is that you are no longer bound by a linear storyline / corridors to travel through. This is a much welomed improvement for sure, the option for the player to proceed at their own pace by selecting to skip around history is very nice.The second improvement is that the upgrading system seems to be easier to use, you are able to level your character as you please and you are able to level whatever role you want.Now to the bad parts (not a lot and these are just opinions)The first is that your third party member is limited to the monsters you encounter and...

I'm only a few hours in to the game, but my experience is already so sharply different from what I've read online that I'm going to add my two cents a little early. I will address the two big controversies that are fueling a lot of misinformation: the Xbox 360 version's graphics and the linearity of the gameplay, both of which have been grossly exaggerated.Playstation 3 owners are very disappointed that Square-Enix has given so much support to Microsoft lately, and FFXIII going multiplatform was to many an abomination to God. A Step in the right direction... With a step back...
Just a quick review. I have completed the game, and almost all of the side-quests. I also completely finished XIII and quite a few other games in the FF series.Music - Good, not great. Good mix, but a little different. Some of the music seems out of place, but still has some great songs.Graphics - Very good, even though not much better than FF XIII. I still think the animation cut-scenes are amazing. The worlds are detailed and amazing.Story - Complicated... And kind of ridiculous. Honestly, I would settle for a common love story or story of loss... I didn't need the time paradox to come in to play. Let's leave that to Sci-Fi. Much better than I anticipated!
Before I go into my review, I am making it known that I have yet to finish the game. As I continue playing, I will update this review so my opinion will be accurate.Opening the case: The first thing I noticed was that this game was contained on a single disc. This was interesting to me considering that the previous game was on three discs. As other reviews may have mentioned, this was because this game was made with the Xbox working smarter, not harder. I thought however that this might come at a price - shorter sequences or shoddier quality. I'll discuss this more later on.Storyline: Without going into too much detail,I believe the storyline in this game is much better than of XIII. Had low expectations, but am beyond pleased
I am a long time FF fan, and have been playing since FF1 in the 80's. I was very disappointed with FF13 for several reasons, which have been repeated a thousand times, so this will not be "1001"-FF13-2 is awesome. this is the game I thought I was buying when I ordered FF13. I love everything about the system, the cinematics, everything. The addition of the "God of War" style cinematic action is awesome, and not nearly as "throw your controller through the wall" frustrating as GoW(particularly the final sequence with Zeus in GoW2). Instead, the cinematic action adds to the game in a positive way. I would also note I am a fan of long hours of grinding to make the bosses that much easier and to crush the opposition with ease... This game not only makes the grinding enjoyable, I hardly noticed the grind at all even when walking around for random encounters for that specific purpose.I cannot recommend this game highly enough. The most well-written guide I've ever seen.
I've seen a lot of different guides for games and this company Piggyback is the best I've seen so far. Nothing is missing from this guide. It's got everything you need, like an encyclopedia for FFXIII. The words are intelligent and descriptive and they think of anything you may need to know at any given point in the game. They even have spoiler warnings and an index, as well as an intermission mid-story to get you prepped for the rest of the game. It has an excellent strategy and analysis section that teaches you everything about the way the game functions, as well as tables for every weapon, accessory, component, dismantles, EVERYTHING.A+ best I've seen in about 18 years of hardcore gaming.

Strategy without Spoilers
The Piggyback Complete Official Guide for Final Fantasy XIII covers all the bases the Brady guides for Final Fantasy XII did and goes one step further. If you're familiar with these guides, you'll be happy to know that Piggyback seems to have looked at all the complaints of the Brady guide and addressed them well. And I mean actually food logs, not what I am doing on my blog here, but actually writing down what you eat, the time and amount and calories and sugar and protien and carbs of everything you eat or drink right when you eat it, you will be surprised. If you have never done Overhead Squats, I recommend to start very light, look up some videos or talk to someone, then don't be afraid to hold the weight up there for a little bit until you have your arms and shoulders holding the weight properly... Another thing I usually tell people is to get a partner, which helps if you are new to working out and trying to get into it. But it is another thing that I don't personally do. Food logs and workout logs are the best thing I can recommend. Which normally I can do about that weight at 5x5 stets and reps, but after the workout it was tough, I couldn't just do it, I really had to focus and make sure my technique was good, really had to lock my shoulders and back to support the weight... So that is kinda where I am at now with my progress, I don't really have any goals, which I know is not great, I would recommend to anyone if you want to start working out or getting healthy get some attainable but difficult goals for yourself to... The fighting seems fun and exciting at first until you realize how gimmicky it really is then you notice it is actually less exciting than the older FF titles.
